The Ranch

With the support of the City of Cotati, Sandy Loam runs the beloved Veronda-Falletti Ranch as an urban demonstration farm and arts & cultural center with its co-manager, Farmster. Sandy Loam provides sustainability-minded programming for children and youth, complementing Farmster’s programs for adults.

Sandy Loam is named after the Ranch’s fertile soil composition, and provides a unique and meaningful learning environment for our community.

Our intimate ranch house hosts a beautiful and newly renovated classroom and workspaces. Our farm and garden areas facilitate a diverse range of guided and independent experiences, including caring for the Ranch’s land and farm animals. By emphasizing beauty and safety, we honor each visitor and student’s right to be in a deserving space and encourage them to respect our environment for all the gifts it provides us.

Our Teaching Garden continues to grow into an educational and gathering space for young people and their teachers. A river of painted rocks runs through it. It is home to a flock of 6 chickens and two roosters, who are teachers themselves. Fruit trees have been planted. An ever evolving art studio has been created. And, our garden beds continue to be tended. The Teaching Garden will grow and evolve along with our students, so they may learn to live in harmony with nature and lead the way into a sustainable future.
